Five Pounds Heavier, Ten Times Happier!

December 2, 2008 - Leave a Response

Well, as you know, last week was Thanksgiving. I was excited on Wednesday as I packed my clothes in my suitcase, grabbed my puppy Freddy, and hopped in my car to begin the 10 hour trek home. I haven’t seen my family since May, so I was excited to catch up with them and stuff my face with turkey and pie. (Mostly just excited to stuff my face.) In any case, the scenery was less than desirable but I had Fred to keep me company, so I was doing ok. I got home around 7:00 p.m. that night and hung out with my family until Sunday. Man was I ready to come back to school! Now, don’t get me wrong, I love my family, but there is only so much you can take! So, I am 28 and in graduate school and my family seems to think there is something wrong with me because I’m not married and I don’t have 8 kids by now! So, all weekend the only thing I heard was, “So, when are you getting married?, “You’re no spring chicken!”, and “I think it’s about time you had one of these!” (said while I was holding a baby). I know they mean well, but it can cause a bit of stress when you have to deal with it for 5 days in a row. I’m just glad my boyfriend wasn’t around for any of this….I’m pretty sure he would be running away right now if he were! Anyway, despite the heckling from my family members, I had a great holiday filled with wonderful food and good company. It was exactly what I needed to give me the energy to come back and face finals week! And as the title to this blog states, I may be five pounds heavier after the Thanksgiving feast, but I am definitely ten times happier because of it! Happy Holidays!

The End Is Near

November 18, 2008 - Leave a Response

Well, there are only about three weeks of the semester left. This can be taken as good news or bad news. The good news is that I get an entire month to relax without doing any homework or reading. I can go out, go to dinner, go to a movie, go on a vacation, or do nothing but sit in front of the television sipping hot cocoa while eating bag upon bag of Pirate’s Booty. I’ll have all the time in the world! The bad news is that I have so much work to do in the next three weeks that I feel that I may become stressed out and start acting like one on my own patients by resorting to talking to myself and chasing imaginary bunnies! (I’m studying mental health counseling) Anyway, I know I will buckle down and get all of the work done, but unfortunately, I just don’t feel like doing any of it! (I can be lazy at times) So, I’ll probably do what I do best and procrastinate until the last possible minute, and then do the required work. It may take some sleepless nights, but I work better under pressure. :) Besides, I get a small break before the end of the semester since next week is Thanksgiving. The delicious turkey, mashed potatos and pumpkin pie just might give me the energy I need to complete the semester. Or it could put me into a turkey-induced coma that I will not come out of until 2009. Your guess is as good as mine. I’ll have to wait and see what happens! If I don’t talk to you before Thanksgiving, have a happy and delicious food-filled day!

It’s Halloween! Yay!

So, today is the day! It’s finally Halloween and I have the perfect costume! My party last weekend was a success and people were commenting on it the whole night. They thought my crimped hair was just awesome and my leg warmers actually came in handy because the party was outside and it was a bit chilly! I knew they were good for something! Although, half way through the party, the shoes I was wearing were making my feet hurt soooo bad, so I changed to flip flops. Other than that, it was rad! Anyway, tonight I am going to a haunted jail and I have another party tomorrow night. Halloween is so fun! And the great thing is that even though Halloween is almost over, I have Thanksgiving and Christmas to look forward to after that. I love the end of the year festivities. Alright, time to get back to work! Have a spooktacular night!

I Heart 80’s

October 24, 2008 - Leave a Response

Ok, so I have most of my 80’s outfit for my upcoming Halloween parties. It is absolutely perfect! I was able to find a crimper, can you believe it?? I didn’t even know they still existed! Some of the 80’s fashion is coming back into style so maybe I’ll be ahead of the game if I sport a crimped hairdo! Anyway, I bought the most fabulous pink and blue plaid high heals to go with my pink and black leapord print skirt. I have black leggings with pink scrunchy socks too! I have hot pink and neon yellow plastic earrings, bracelets, and necklaces to go with my outfit. I also found a hair scrunchy that I am going to put in my hair in a crimped side pony. I’m just looking for a shirt to complete the outfit and I’m going to look for that tonight. So, I will definitely be ready for my first Halloween party, which is tomorrow night! I’m so excited! It should be a lot of fun! Anyway, like Happy Halloween! I hope it’s totally awesome!!!

Gouls and Ghosts

So, Halloween is just around the corner. I am trying to decide what costume I will wear to the many parties I will be attending and it’s turning out to be a very tough decision. Hmmmm, what shall I dress up as? A witch? No, too ordinary. A ladybug? Fairy? Black Cat? Nah, too boring. Since I am a big fan of the 80’s, maybe I’ll dress up as an 80’s rocker. I could buy a hot pink mini skirt, leg warmers, and even crimp my hair! You do remember the crimper, don’t you? I wonder where I can find one these days??? Anyway, I may be on to something. I know it’s probably been done before but it’s always fun to dress up and pretend it’s the awesome 80’s! If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!

First Exam of the Year

September 30, 2008 - Leave a Response

Well, I had my first exam of the year last night. I was stressing out because I am in a new school with a new professor and you never can tell what different professors expect on exams. So, I studied extremely hard and actually think I did fairly well. The exam was a bit tough but I like them that way because I know I am actually learning something. And getting my money’s worth! The professor had us do a relaxation activity before the exam to help us de-stress. Although it was a nice try, I found that it didn’t really help me. I couldn’t stop my mind from wandering to the material that I knew was going to be on the test. I was still studying while I was trying to participate in the relaxation activity! Oh well, it’s over now…at least until Wednesday when I have another exam in a different class. Arggghhh….  :)

Relay for Life at St. Francis!

Raising money for cancer research is something I hold close to my heart. What better way to raise money than Relay for Life?! Relay for Life is a way to celebrate survivors and fight against the disease as well. Relay for Life is coming to St. Francis on October 17-18 from 6 p.m. to Noon. I know I’m going to be there so hopefully you can join me! If you can’t donate your time, you can always donate your money by going to the following website: http://relay.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RelayForLifeGreatLakesDivision?fr_id=11580&pg=entry&JServSessionIdr001=td4awlzyq1.app314a

Anyway, it is a great event and you will feel so much better about yourself if you do it. I promise!  Hope to see you there!

Yay for fall!

September 19, 2008 - Leave a Response

It’s the time of year when the leaves start turning a brownish red and start falling to the ground. It’s not scorching hot anymore and the air is fresh and crisp. Yes, fall is finally arriving. Fall is my favorite time of year. It’s a time for pumpkins and turkeys and the days are just beautiful! The University of Saint Francis campus is especially beautiful because it is just full of trees! It is very naturey (I’m pretty sure that is not a word). Anyway, it looks beautiful and smells great and it makes walking through campus and going to class fun. I’m going to enjoy this time because I know soon it will be cold and snowy and I’m not a big fan of winter weather. I’ll just try to enjoy this beautiful weather while I can. I hope you do, too!

Third Week of Classes!

September 10, 2008 - Leave a Response

So, it is now the third week of classes and everything seems to be going great so far. I have been keeping up with the reading assignments and I have already done a presentation in one of my classes (I volunteered to go first so I could get it out of the way!). This is my first semester of graduate school so I was a little nervous when classes first began but the students and professors here are super nice and my nervousness went away after my first set of classes.

I have also already met some great people and went to dinner with one of the girls in one of my classes. I’m new to the area so it was really important for me to meet some friends! I’m also trying to get a little more involved in clubs and activities. I wasn’t very involved in my undergraduate program and I regretted it so I’m taking a different path in graduate school. I have already joined the Graduate School Psychology Club and I may attend a couple of USF football games, too. I hear we’re pretty good! Anyway, I really like it here so far and my classes are going smoothly. So far, so good!
